The body tag will give you the year and model regardless of what your DMV paperwork may say.

To find out which Rambler you have, look at the model plate either inside the drivers door frame or on top of the right front fender under the hood. Where it says "model" you will find a 4 or 5 digit number.

The first two digits are the year.

The 3rd digit is the model number:

  • 0 = American (58-69) Hornet (70-77) Concord (78-83)
  • 1 = Rambler 6 (58-60) Classic (61-66) Rebel (66-70) Matador (71-74)
  • 2 = Rebel (58-60) Classic V-8 (61)
  • 3 = Rebel (57) AMX (68-70) Eagle (80-88)
  • 4 = Gremlin (70-78) Spirit (79-83)
  • 5 = Marlin (65-67) Eagle SX/4 (80-83)
  • 6 = Pacer (75-80)
  • 7 = Javelin (68-74) Javelin AMX (71-74)
  • 8 = Ambassador (46-74) Matador (75-78)

The 4th digit is the body type:

  • 2 = 2 Door Business Coupe
  • 3 = 4 Door Hard Top Wagon (1958-60) & 2 Door Hatch Back (1973-83)
  • 4 = 2 Door Wagon
  • 5 = 4 Door Sedan
  • 6 = 2 Door Club Sedan
  • 7 = 2 Door Convertible
  • 8 = 4 Door Wagon
  • 9 = 2 Door Hard Top

The 5th digit (if present) denotes the trim options for your model.
